Travel Tips
for Ecuador

Here is our evolving tips list for earthlings traveling through Ecuador˙ If you have something interesting to add to the list, post them in the comments˙ We’ll post the ones that are too true not to post and the ones that make us giggle a little˙

1˙ Be prepared to get high˙ The capital city of Ecuador, Quito, rests 2,850m above sea level˙ The air is so thin, just walking round the block will take your breath away˙

2˙ Speaking of being high and taking your breath away, because of the bulge at the equator, Ecuador is actually closer to space, than other country˙

3˙ If being close to space doesn’t excite you? Maybe you need something, a little more mystical˙ Take a trip into the Ecuadorian Amazon and experience an Ayahuasca with the Shamans of the Napusamai Ayahuasca Lodges˙ Get away and get connected with the real You, and the reality right beneath the surface˙ Let the people of the Napo tribe open your Mind, Heart & Life like no other experience˙

How can you miss the opportunity to straddle both hemispheres of your Planet?

4˙ Ecuador is so into it’s nature that, in 2008, they declared that Nature has Constitutional Rights˙

5˙ Unfortunately, this does not apply to Guinea Pigs˙ They are considered a delicacy in Ecuador˙

6˙ Have you ever zip lined “Butterfly” style? If you love a good adrenaline rush, go to Mindo and zip line upside-down through the canopy of Ecuador’s rainforest˙

7˙ After flying above the forest, take a night walking tour and creep through the jungle, spotting the creatures that come out at night˙ *Don’t attempt this on your own˙ There are guides for this˙

8˙ In Ecuador, the music coming from the truck is not selling ice cream˙ It’s actually picking up your garbage˙ Yep, the trash trucks announced their arrival by some of the coolest music I’ve heard˙

There is a group of people who CHOOSE to live within the crater of a dormant volcano˙ At Pululahua, the villagers live without electricity… without wifi… without most of the stress we deal with˙

9˙ Want to be a lifetime citizen of Ecuador, it’s so easy… just deposit $25k in any Ecuadorian bank and Viva Ecuador!

11˙ Did you know that there is a passport stamp for The Middle of The World? Mitad del Mundo is probably the most popular place in Ecuador˙ How can you miss the opportunity to straddle both hemispheres of your Planet? Balance an egg (or try to)˙ *IMPORTANT TIP: There are 2 locations to visit the equator˙ The original and the actual˙ The original is pretty much an outdoor tourist souvenir mall with a museum and the famous yellow line separating the two hemispheres˙ But, where you want to go is called, Intiñan Solar Museum˙ This is where you will see the real equator, the one mapped with GPS˙ Where you’ll see the toilet flushing trick, the vertical sun dial, a shrunken head and learn about the penis fish˙

12˙And, we are not sure if it’s because Ecuador sits in the middle of the Planet, but they are pretty bad at giving directions˙ You’re probably better off using Apple Maps, than asking directions˙ But, maybe it was us˙
